James Love Legal

Law Practice Specialising in UK and international Intellectual Property

International Experience

We are different to many law firms.
In addition to providing advice in a purely UK context, from our formation we have focussed on legal work involving an international aspect. Fundamental to this is the experience of our team over many years dealing with cross-border issues.

Two Directions

Internationally, we help businesses in two directions – UK businesses looking abroad, and foreign organisations seeking to protect or exploit their rights in the UK or EU.

Where necessary, we are assisted by cooperation with specialist advisers in foreign jurisdictions. This is in addition, of course, to advising clients on a purely UK basis. Examples of some of the work we do includes helping companies obtain registered trade marks around the world, and enforcing those rights against infringers. Our successes have included taking English court action on behalf of Chinese companies to stop UK infringers copying their designs.

Our exclusive invitation-only international events are renowned. For instance:

  • Party on a luxury yacht in Barcelona
  • Self-driving Trabants around East Berlin
  • A Yorkshire Tea-Party in Boston, Massachusetts
  • Riding a vintage fire engine across the Golden Gate Bridge
  • Cocktails on a traditional junk in Hong Kong harbour
  • A gourmet food tour around Coronado Island, San Diego
  • A reception to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, British Embassy, Washington DC

"China Britain Business Council is the UK’s leading organisation helping British companies to do business in China. When CBBC or its members need to understand the intellectual property environment in the UK or in China, we know we can ask James Love Legal for advice"

Dr Giles Blackburne, Executive Director, CBBC

We are based in the centre of the UK in the heart of the Northern Powerhouse, but our reach extends around the world. Our team members regularly travel abroad to speak at and attend conferences, and to meet our many foreign clients.

Over many years, members of our team have built up extensive networks of contacts to assist businesses internationally. We work closely with UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and have completed its Passport to Export and Gateway to Global Growth programmes, as well as making use of its Overseas Market Introduction Service (OMIS).

Chamber International

We are pleased to be working with
Chamber International – the export specialists.

Our successes have been recognised by awards and testimonials.

For example, in 2010 and 2016 we were shortlisted against competition from much larger international law firms in the prestigious national Law Society Excellence Awards for our international legal services.

Our work has received press coverage such as in the FT and the South China Morning Post, and our practice has been featured in a publication circulated in the British Consulate, Hong Kong.
